The Tale of the Shepherd Boy

At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, dwelt a shepherd boy. His being was essentially unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to look after his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the wind across the solo tree on the peak were his main co-dwellers. Day in day, guarding his wards inculcated in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

But, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. During one such occasion from sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome scheme.

Tales of predators prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One morning he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but found no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a few days more. Yet, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned click here to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
